Samsung's G800 to Launch in November

Samsung’s latest camera phone, the triband G800, has a 5 megapixel, auto-focus camera with a xenon flash and 3x optical zoom. The camera utilizes face detection for taking better snaps. All this is neatly concealed with a lens cover for protection and style.

That’s impressive enough, but just in case you’re picky and such features don’t hold you in thrall, the G800 has plenty more to... well, tickle your tech-bone.

Apart form the camera, the G800 has a 2.4 inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 256k colors. It’s equipped with 160MB of internal memory. As if that’s not enough, the G800 can be fitted with a microSD card for more memory.

Connectivity-wise, the G800 is GPRS, EDGE-enabled with HSDPA for fast transfer of data. Bluetooth with A2DP compatibility and USB v2.0 come bundled. It also has an FM radio and a document viewer.

The phone will hit the European market next month but there’s no word on the official price. Estimates, however, hover around Rs 24,000 (approx. $600). Stay tuned!

Nokia Launches N81

Nokia's recently launched N81 and N81 8GB multimedia phones are now available globally. Designed specifically for music and gaming, these devices come with dedicated music and game keys and are loaded with memory so you can store more and play more.

The 3D Multimedia Menu introduced in these devices is the first step to bringing a new user interface to the Nokia Nseries range.

"Accessing your portable music and games collection is not enough anymore," said Jonas Geust, vice president, Multimedia, Nokia. "Today people want to be more in control of how and where they consume their digital entertainment. They want to discover new favorites and share them without being confined to one location – and it's devices like the Nokia N81 that facilitate this."

The Nokia N81 and Nokia N81 8GB also offer access to songs through the Nokia Music Store. And with their integrated Nokia Music Players, creating playlists and managing music collections on the move is simple. For enhanced sound quality, compatible high-quality headphones or speakers can be used with the standard 3.5mm headphone connector.

A preview of the N-Gage games service is also available in the devices, including playable demos of EA Sports FIFA 07, Asphalt 3: Street Rules, and Space Impact Light. After the launch of the N-Gage later this year, the full N-Gage application will be available for download. Players can then sample all N-Gage games for free and buy the ones they want.

The estimated retail price of the Nokia N81 is 360 Euro before subsidies or taxes. The 8GB version is expected to retail for 430 Euro before subsidies or taxes.

Norman Virus Control 5.90

Norman Virus Control 5.90
Norman Virus Control (NVC) is an antivirus program that protects workstations and servers against malicious software, also referred to as malware. The most prevalent types of malware are computer viruses, worms, and trojans. Using the latest antivirus software technologies like the Norman SandBox II, machines can be protected from new and unknown virus threats.
Norman Virus Control uses the revolutionary technology to detect new viruses before pattern files are available. As a part of the Norman Virus Scanner, the Norman SandBox inserts any suspicious file into a simulated computer, complete with emulated network connections, where Norman monitors the actions of the file in real-time, enabling it to behave as if it were in a live environment. If virus behavior is detected and confirmed, Norman will prevent the virus from spreading and causing harm to your system.
The unique Norman SandBox II technology brings protection against viruses, worms and Trojans to new levels, by identifying and stopping malware during the period of time when a new virus begins to circulate before pattern files are available. This goes far beyond how other products can protect you against new virus threats. Emails are scanned for viruses before they reach the mailbox to ensure that viruses do not propagate this way. In addition, downloads from newsgroups can be scanned for malware before they are made available to the user.

Then add Norman Internet Update (NIU), an automatic Internet update mechanism that ensures that your NVC installation is always up-to-date, including incremental updates of definition files, makes NVC the obvious choice for particular users that require real protection from computer malware.

Key features of Norman Virus Control:
* Email scanning for malicious programs
* Real-time scanning of files
* Norman SandBox technology to include detection of unknown viruses, trojans and worms
* Automatic updates over the Internet - complete product and incremental updates of virus definition files

Changes in NVC v5.90:
- NVC v5.9 is Vista compatible.
- Tray menu: If you select Stop On-access scanner from the tray menu, the scanner is paused until the next time you restart your machine, updates are installed or a manual start is performed. This change has been implemented for security reasons. Stopping the On-access scanner represents a severe security risk, and the automatic restart of the scanner after a restart is a measure to ensure that you don’t unintentionally forget to turn the scanner back on.
- New filter drivers make on-access scanning easier and more efficient on platforms where Microsoft’s Filter Manager is implemented, i.e. Windows XP (SP2). For example is NVC’s detection of rootkits improved due to this new approach.
